Digital Media Arts College Masters Student David Valenzi

Hello, I’m DavidValenzi. I've been a DMAC student for a while.  I moved from Texas in 2005 to attend DMAC, and got my BFA in Animation in 2008.  After that, I moved around Florida for a few years but chose not to work in the industry.

Eventually, I decided to come back to DMAC to get my Masters.  I let my skills decay after graduation, so I wanted to improve on those, but mostly, I wanted the degree so I can teach.  The professors here have been a big influence, so I'm trying to pick up on as much of their technique and knowledge as I can.

At the moment, I'm specializing in 3D tracking and set fitting in MatchMover, and rendering with Maya's Mental Ray renderer, while trying to branch out into effects with Houdini. My interests extend further than just 3D, though.  I'm a big ol' dork, with interests in standard "geek" things; fantasy and sci-fi, video games, movies, role-playing games, that sort of thing.  When I've got the time for it, I play a lot of fantasy-inspired games, like Dark Souls and Skyrim, along with sci-fi and post-apocalyptic games, like Halo and Fallout. Of course, being in the Masters program at DMAC, I don't get much time for that! The program itself is tough, but not impossible.  It's definitely a good challenge, and I'm picking up quite a bit along the way.  I'm in my second year here and it's great to be back among like-minded people and fellow artists.

Digital Media Arts College - Student Animator Moses Saintfleur

My name is Moses Saintfleur and I attend Digital Media ArtsCollege (A.K.A “DMAC”) in Boca Raton, FL. I am in my third year of college, graduating with my Bachelor’s degree in Computer Animation next year. AlI I can say is that college has been a massive learning experience for me. I started college in 2012 and transferred from Broward College to DMAC in 2013. I’ve been playing video games for as long as I can remember being able to speak. But as I grew older I knew that playing games wouldn’t get me anywhere in life. I didn’t even know what I wanted to be. I don’t think I realized what I wanted to do with my life until I took my first class at DMAC. I still love playing video games, but what I love even more is being able to create them.

Telling vivid stories in an interactive way for people to enjoy is what I can imagine myself doing for the rest of my life. Right now I’m really trying to become an Environment Artist and Cinematics Animator. I actually plan on being able to do every role in game development.  I’ve never really had an interest for any other industry than Digital Entertainment. Being able to make things for people to enjoy is what I would proudly spend my life doing. I can also be pretty competitive at times when it comes to class assignments. I will always try to be the best that I can be. I know it’s pretty cliché to say that “I want to be the best” cause everyone wants to be the best. I really just try to be better than the person I was yesterday. The only person I’m competing with is myself.

I would love to work with people that have the same passion for this industry as I do. I would also love to own my own animation and visual effects studio. I want to tell stories and provide experiences that connect with people. The meaning of life is whatever you want it to be. And mine is to create. Creators Cast will reflect that sometime in the future.

Apart from being in front of the computer all day and smashing CRTL + Z. I like to spend my free time not just playing games, but trying to understand how they were made. However, too much of anything can get really boring after a while so going out and just enjoying life, appreciating nature, or  just taking a break from 3D can be refreshing.

Last summer I went on a cruise and visited Cozumel Island in Mexico for a few days. It was certainly an unforgettable experience. The atmosphere there felt so different, but good, really good. That happened to be my second time leaving the country. I plan on doing that quite often while I still can. Earth is such a beautiful place and I wouldn’t want to miss out on what’s out there to explore.

Other hobbies of mine would include editing videos, hanging out with friends, and tricking. Tricking is basically a combination of flashy martial arts tricks and breakdancing moves. Unfortunately, I haven’t been training as hard as I used to since I’m always busy working in Maya, Zbrush or UE4. It is pretty challenging trying to practice multiple arts at once. However, even when I’m not training I tend to wear sweatpants. Like, all the time. Regular jeans just can’t compete with joggers and I’m here to tell you that joggers are future! “What a time to be alive!”

If you’ve made it this far into my then I’m sorry to tell you-- “It ends here”. Thank you for taking the time to read about my life as a college student! Movies really did trick me into thinking that college is where you get to party endlessly. “Maybe when I go for my Master’s at “USC School of Cinematic Arts” I get to live that dream. I mean study and behave like an adult.”

Digital Media Arts College Student - Spring Break in Venezuela

                                                                    “Open Arms: Caracas"

My name is Janeth Ng! I’m an international student from Venezuela, currently getting my Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design at Digital Media Arts College (DMAC) in Boca Raton, FL. It’s my third semester at DMAC and I went back home for spring break. As rumors and the news say, Venezuela is currently going through tough situations politically and economically, but the people, culture, and nature are beautiful.

I was born and raised in Caracas, Venezuela, a city surrounded by trees, buildings, houses on hills, tight streets, motorcycles, crazy drivers, and overpopulated underground trains. People are always saying their “good morning” greetings to each other and talking about politics or what products can be found at the grocery stores. I came back to visit my family and friends, taking a break from school. It’s the best feeling when you go back to your home country. I grew up in a Chinese family with a Venezuelan culture. I consider myself a “Third Culture Kid”, which is a term used to refer to children who were raised in a culture outside of their parents' culture for a significant part of their development years. We speak three languages at home: Cantonese, Spanish, and English. There is a huge population of Chinese immigrants in Venezuela and now up to a fourth generation of Chinese-Venezuelans who are fluent in both Chinese and Spanish.

I came back home with no plans at all, which is something that I haven’t done for a long time. Typically in South Florida, people have schedules for every second of the day. I was caught up with so many schedules, busy with school, projects, and other activities. Coming back home has been a relief, meeting up with people I hadn’t seen since August of 2014, and just hanging out with close friends and family. As for the rest of the week, I want to visit my school, International Christian School (ICS), where I received my education from Kindergarten to 12th grade. Every time I have a chance to fly back home, I visit my school. This might sound weird for students because once they graduate, they don’t ever want to go back to their high school, but my school is different. I grew up in a very small, familiar school. We are a family, even after people graduate and move to different parts of the world, alumni and teachers still manage to meet up with each other after years. Students at “ICS” have the opportunity to receive an education from American missionary teachers who dedicate at least two years (or more) to teach overseas. Students and teachers have close relationships including mentorship and counseling, even to the point that at our annual “Spring Dance”, we would all dance together to the songs Cha Cha Slide, YMCA and the Macarena!

Food is incredible down here in Venezuela, but because of scarcity, it’s getting harder to find the basic products such as milk, eggs, chicken, beef, and corn flour, but people still manage to cook home-style foods that are delicious and memorable. There are all kinds of cultural foods and traditions here in Caracas. People come from all over the world sharing their cultures. The most incredible feeling is to come back home to people with their arms open wide. Hugs, kisses, laughs, interesting conversations, these are things that I look forward to experience once I go back home. When people meet up after years without seeing each other, the surprising moment is to pick up from where we left off. That is what I love the most about flying back to Caracas!

Thanks for reading about my experience during my Spring Break, and remember, “Always enjoy the little things in life.”
